I DONT CARE IF YOU LIKE STEVEN UNIVERSE OR NOT

If you suffer from Anxiety, Depression, Disassociation, Intrusive thoughts, or any number of things that take you away from a healthy head-space then
this song is for you.

This song is a template for a coping mechanism.
This will walk you through a legitimate method of addressing intrusive thoughts and working through them in order to ground yourself. I cannot express how important this is- for people like me who suffer from these moments all the time this song is so important.

Garnet is teaching Stevonnie  Mindfulness meditation. Its a practice to help ground a person to the present moment. This is a lifesaver for people with heavy, constantly running, and wandering minds. 


With Mindfulness Meditation you are allowing yourself to pull away from your thoughts and to focus on whats going on right then and there. The rhythm of your breathing. The weight of your limbs and the pull of gravity. The tension you may have been holding in spots you didnt know you were. And your thoughts. 

Being mindful is not meant to quiet your thoughts. Sometimes they’re as automatic as your beating heart.  Its not meant to get rid of your pain, either. But you’re able to pull away from thoughts and emotions. You can observe them without being a part of them. You can watch them and not relive it. 

After all, you cant relive the past and you cant predict the future…all you ever have is the now.

I live with Anxiety and Depression and this is the most effective and most powerful coping skill I have. It doesnt require anything extra [ you just need yourself and a quiet spot ] , you can do it just about anywhere , and, if practiced enough, you can learn to do it on the go. Its great for emergencies. 


Garnet was an amazing teacher for this, but the person I learned Mindfulness from is Eckhart Tolle. If you want some more help, I would suggest reading his book, The Power of Now

i use mindfulness all the time and i cant tell you how much it meant to me to see this on steven universe. im not done crying yet

it took me a long time to learn how to actually benefit from what i was taught in group therapy when i was about 13. it seemed like spiritual mumbo jumbo and i am not a very spiritual person. but it slowly clicked into place

you know that if you try not to think of something, it…well, it doesnt work. equally you can fixate on something and find yourself wallowing in negative thoughts and feelings, or spiralling (this is all so well represented in the episode oh my goddddd) 

mindfulness is about watching the thoughts go by without judging them, without fixating on them or pushing them away. my mantra when i practise is “cling to nothing, push nothing away” and i breathe in and out to the rhythm of it

it helps me break out of oh-my-god-everything-is-awful spirals, or when i have a thought of trauma that i am avoiding but it is like it keeps forcing its way back into the front of my mind

practising it when you are feeling okayish is how to start off and then once you get into the swing of it, it becomes easier to actually use it in the midst of the mess

and i am so happy i have the song now to sing to myself when i am struggling and to think that garnet struggles with bad brain times and to think that children are going to learn this and…it means a lot
